TrueStar will be at Anime Expo this weekend.  Unfortunately, this means Noise Channel will be on hiatus this week.  She’ll be back with Nugget and Producer Jake on July 5th to start up another round of Nugget’s Choice.

Voting for round 1-A of Nugget’s Choice is now over and the results have been calculated.  You can check out the results here.  Noise Channel will open up voting for round 1-B of the Forth Annual Nugget’s Choice Award!

Again, apologies for not having a new show for you this week.  Enjoy this silly photo of Nugget as a consolation!

TrueStar, Producer Jake, and Nugget start off the summer with the first round of the Fourth Annual Nugget’s Choice Award!

Each show will feature music from chiptune artists participating in voting for the week.  While it’s not required to listen to the Noise Channel episodes to vote, we hope that you are familiar with each artist before you vote for your favorites.  Go here to see the complete bracket list of all participating chiptune artists.

Pretty Eight Machine by Inverse Phase

After a year of working on the Pretty Eight Machine album, Inverse Phase was ready to unleash it onto the world.  Fans of chiptunes and Nine Inch Nails joined TrueStar and Inverse Phase for the listening party.  A couple of download codes were given to two lucky listeners and Inverse Phase was so excited that he had to take a ‘pee break’.  We can only guess that the high number of listeners gave him pee anxiety.

Unfortunately, there is no archive for his show.  However, you can now purchase the album on his Bandcamp site.  As of this post, it is ranked #2 on Bandcamp.  Lets get it to #1!

The Nubuwo Rokko Chan Kickstarter Is Live

The Nubuwo Kickstarter dedicated to funding the team behind the flash game Rokko Chan is now live.  As of this post, it has a week left and has about $7,000 to raise before the goal is reached.

Currently this is the only way to get your hands on a copy of the Rokko Chan album.  You can get a digital download with the lowest tier incentive, but you can also get a CD if you spend $40 or more.  You get lots of other stuff too!  If you enjoyed the music from Noise Channel’s listening party preview, you’re sure to love the entire album.  The album will not be available again until July 4th on Bandcamp.

TrueStar almost didn’t make it in time to host the show.  She was out in the field during research for a science project and the professor locked the keys in the vehicle.  Luckily she was with a team of engineers who created some shade with some tarp, rope, and the side of the vehicle.  The takeaway message:  never lock your keys in your car in the middle of the summer desert in the afternoon.

TrueStar, now with an amazing sunburn, returned home in time to do a regular Noise Channel show.  There were a couple of giveaways (thanks Burnkit2600 and Aethernaut) and a special block of some of her favorite Japanese chiptune artists. Continue reading »

Noise Channel Presents the Fourth Annual Nugget’s Choice Award!

Noise Channel is gearing up for the Fourth Annual Nugget’s Choice Award!  Thirty two chiptune artists will do battle with one another and only one will survive!

OK it’s not that dramatic, but it’ll be lots of fun and we need your help to make it a success!  Here’s the deal.

TrueStar has randomly selected thirty two chiptune artists to participate in the Nugget’s Choice Award.  They have been randomly paired up and listeners will hear tracks from each pairing.  After the show, listeners will come to this website and vote on the chiptune artist they like most in each pairing.  Artists will be eliminated in a bracket style tournament; only one will remain!

This event will start up on June 21st and will take about six or seven weeks to complete.  Please keep in mind that while this is a contest, it’s a completely silly one and no one will actually win anything.  It’s just for fun!
